Hey everyone, Tim & Cris here from Marginal Boundaries.
Maybe you know of us. We’re full-time bloggers, part-time travelers, and entrepreneurs. The Marginal Boundaries brand has allowed us to work on a number of amazing projects, from speaking around the world at various conventions on social media and travel blogging, to working on projects such as being Resident Bloggers in the Costa Brava region of Spain for three months in 2015, or forming Stormhaven Studios and working as the executive producer on the Saga of Lucimia MMORPG with a team of 20 talented developers and generating more than 40 million views on our social media in 2015.
In mid-2015, after we finished up in Spain, we came back to Cancun, which has been our base of operations since 2010. We did some property hunting, and in July we opened up two spare bedrooms of our home as Airbnb rentals as part of our Cancun Apartment Rentals project, which we’ve been operating for nearly three years now.
As of January, 2016, we’ve seen more than 60 guests pass through our doors, and we’ve earned and kept our Superhost status since October (we had to earn it in July, August and September, our first three months of being hosts) 0f 2015. Basically, that means we are going above and beyond the average Airbnb host at providing a home-away-from-home atmosphere. You can read more on what the Superhost status means here.
Now, we’re taking it a step beyond, and offering our home to other bloggers for a series of hybrid FAM trips throughout 2016. We want to continue our sharing of the hidden side of Cancun that most people don’t realize exists, given that the Hotel Zone and Spring Break are the only things that most people are familiar with when it comes to this part of the Riviera Maya.
Here’s what we’re offering. Once a month throughout 2016, we’ll host a blogger (or blogging couple) at our home for three nights in our Blogger Abode room. We’ll cook your breakfasts, we’ll take you around town and show you our favorite hotspots and restaurants, and treat you to a sampling of what it’s like to actually live here like a local, rather than a tourist.
Your accommodations and breakfasts are 100% free while you are at our house: three nights and three mornings of rest, relaxation, and good grub. Read our testimonials: our breakfasts are one of the most commonly mentioned high points of our guests’ time with us.
During the days that you are here, we’ll take you around to our favorite haunts here in town, from local beaches and lunch spots, to restaurants, parks, and plazas. During this time, you’ll be able to shoot photos and video, and gather the cream of the crop as far as local content goes, which you can then publish on your blog and social media outlets.
You’ll be on your own as far as the costs of transport and food go during these outings, but we’ll be on hand to guide you around and show you the best of what Cancun has to offer. And, should you want to hit up one of the nearby Maya ruins on a tour, we’re more than happy to help you organize an outing during your time here.
We can only host one blogger or blogging couple per month. The best time for you to organize a trip is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, because the local parks have a variety of shows and activities that usually only take place on weekend nights. However, you are free to schedule whatever three consecutive nights work best for you, depending on the availability of the room (check the calendar to see what dates are free).
You’ll have to pay for your own airfare, as well as transport to/from the airport to our home. We’ll help you work out the logistics once you are confirmed for a weekend with us.
What are the requirements?
Since this is a hybrid FAM trip, we have a few requirements of our fellow bloggers. The full details will be sent out via contract upon confirmation, but the general gist is that we’ll need you to provide an independent article on the room, property, and experience on your website, complete with photos, backlinks, and associated social media coverage, in exchange for the free accommodations.
You should be an established blogger with at least a couple of years under your belt and more than just people liking your photos online. We’ll want to see your media kit + Google Analytics, as well as your LinkedIn/past client work. As a general rule, if you are hitting at least 15k unique views per month on your blog, have worked with at least half a dozen clients in the past with some measure of success, attended a few conventions like TBEX, and have at least 10,000 followers with good engagement ratings and a solid reputation, you’re exactly what we’re looking for.
So send us your info and your availability, and we’ll get back to short-listed candidates. For best results, give us multiple dates that could work for you.
